Kinshazzaville just finished Tompa Eken - Ett liv i punkens tjänst that can be streamed on SVTplay. Two other documentaries is under progress at the moment. One about the aftermath of a car crash in Boise, Idaho - USA.
But sometimes a good story is closer than we think, because the second one is about Ola Fredholm’s mother and her quest to find her long lost father that was rumored to be a spy.
After have spent almost his whole life working for free so the alternative music can have a safe haven to grow, Tompa Eken retires as a poor pensioner. 40 years of love for the music has made him rich in human interaction but not so much financially. His friends Tony and Johan decides to arrange a support gala in Tompa’s name where all the profit goes directly to Tompa so he can end his final chapter in life on a high note.
Together with well known artist like Teddybears STHLM, Refused, Asta Kask, Moneybrother, Weeping Willows and Kajsa Grytt, will we find out what Tompa’s commitment has ment, and through his own words, what made him give up everything else in life to make others grow.
We will also get the backstory of the birth of the Swedish punk scene and the squatter movement that followed, that fought for the alternative culture. Something that repeats today in Stockholm.

“My grandfather was a spy – or at least that is what we heard”. Ola Fredholm tells the story of his mother Kerstin, and their joint search for her biological father. A father that disappeared when Kerstin was only a year old, and since then hasn’t been seen or heard of except through vague rumours. So is it true that he was spying on the Russians for the Brits during the second world war? Was he incarcerated at Långholmen prison in central Stockholm for those crimes? Did he ever start a new family? And if so, will Kerstin finally find the siblings she always longed for? Together with the help of a genealogist they start to unravel the family mystery, and what they will find will change Kerstin’s life forever.
John Roger Olsson can play all instruments – when he plays his own songs. Otherwise, he can't play anything at all, at least so he claims. In this short documentary, we get to follow John and his fellow musicians as The Grand Opening's atmospheric and beautiful music takes shape. We also learn the (un)importance of choruses, grandma's wallet and why you don't have to bring his album to a hipster party.
His mixture of Swedish melancholy and Americana has led to almost 300,000 listens on Spotify for the track Blacker than Blue from the new album, Don't Look Back Into the Darkness. And the British newspaper The Daily Express gave the album a rating of 4 out of 5.
